An installation that reflects on the relationship between the environment and architecture, a discipline that is by definition devoted to landscape transformation, and on sustainability, safeguarding the present and envisioning the future. “A door on a better world” is the name of the initiative promoted by Scrigno in collaboration with YACademy, an international architecture Academy based in Bologna, to whom Scrigno has entrusted the curatorship of the project.
An international group selected among the young students of the Academy will develop a project under the tutorship of Mario Cucinella, one of the most important interpreters of sustainable architecture in Italy, who comments on the initiative as follows: "Mario Cucinella Architects has always been attentive to the issues related to the climate emergency and the training of a new generation of professionals in the field of sustainability, to face the great global challenges in the economic, social and environmental fields".
The work reflects a renewed architectural approach based on listening and welcoming, to redefine the relationship between nature, art and creativity. It will be located in Arte Sella, a contemporary art park of international importance immersed in the majestic hills of Valsugana in Northern Italy, a place that is also symbolic to the relationship between man and nature.
The installation, which shall be defined before the end of April, will be inaugurated in Arte Sella by the summer. This will be followed by the planting of 1,000 trees, aimed at helping to heal a unique area hit in 2018 by the so-called Vaia Storm, an extremely strong weather front that caused the destruction of tens of thousands of hectares of alpine forests and which was more recently damaged by the attacks of the bark beetle, an insect that infests the spruce.

Not functional buildings, but “doors”, where ideas converge to mark a transition between a before and an after, while offering an element of continuity in a moment of discontinuity.”
YACademy
YAC - Young Architects Competitions aim to promote contemporary projects that embody a temporal and personal approach to architectural space. Set up in 2013 on the intuition of three young engineers, convinced that the contest of ideas could be the preferred tool for livening up the debate and research in the world of architecture, they have gained experience of working and collaborating with the major names in contemporary architecture, addressing and investigating numerous architectural design topics.
Five years after the start of its business, YAC decided to open its own network of renowned architects to young designers, with the aim of supporting them in their professional career: four training courses were created, conducted with prestigious partners from Ferrari, National Geographic and Agenzia del Demanio. The courses are held at the prestigious offices of YACademy: a historic building in the heart of Bologna, in the shadow of the Two Towers, next to Piazza Santo Stefano.
