LoftSPA: where memory meets contemporary design

A project of adaptive reuse by Studio Associato Conti & Claus transforms a 15th-century warehouse into a contemporary spa, creating a visionary dialogue between historical materiality and a sensory experience.

Echoes of the Fifteenth Century

In the heart of Massa Marittima’s historic centre, an ancient stone warehouse with exposed beams sits on the ground floor of a centuries-old building. An anonymous, disused space — a place whose story was waiting to be rewritten.

Where well-being and memory converge

The design challenge was not simply to preserve the identity of the site, but to allow the raw beauty of its materials to converse with the needs of a modern SPA, ensuring that neither era overpowered the other.

Generational layers

There is no imitation of the past here, but rather a deep listening to the existing fabric. Every contemporary addition has been conceived as a poetic layer — visible, respectful and capable of enhancing the passage of time rather than concealing it.

Matter, light and fluidity

The intervention establishes a dialogue between opposites. The restored stone walls now embrace light-coloured porcelain stoneware floors and large glass openings. At the heart of the project lies a heated pool, discreetly integrated into the reimagined spatiality. Architectural lighting celebrates the structure, creating a dynamic and enveloping atmosphere where clean lines and contemporary design coexist harmoniously with history.

Scrigno solutions become part of this narrative, enhancing the existing materials and shaping new scenarios for contemporary living.
